This page assumes you know nothing about Torize, and not much about the game. If you already do, Careers has the terms and Operations has the detail.
WHAT TORIZE ACTUALLY DOES
Buildings pay rent. That is the whole idea. If you own a city, every building in it pays you a share of what it earns, on a fixed run once a week — whether or not anybody is buying anything from you, whether or not there is a war on, whether or not you logged in.
So Torize buys cheap ground, puts cities on it, and collects. The ground is asteroids, because nobody fights over asteroids and they carry their own minerals within reach of the build site. Twenty-eight cities across thirteen rocks are standing and paying now.
Alongside that, Torize builds cities on Czerka worlds under contract. Czerka supplies the minerals, the ships and the fees, keeps the finished cities, and pays Torize for each one completed. That contract work is where most new people start, because there is nothing at stake on that ground and somebody else is funding it.
WHAT YOU WOULD ACTUALLY DO
| An afternoon | One job — a city build, a haul run, a survey sweep. Do it. Get paid. That is the entire transaction. Czerka members claim these straight off the board; everyone else should message Xpofer Tomas, who will say what is open and what it pays. |
|---|---|
| A few weeks in | If you keep coming back and the work suits you, there is a salaried seat waiting. Weekly pay, a ship on assignment, and the materials for every job. |
| Longer | The people who know the fields end up running them. There is no queue for that and no queue to wait in — there are thirteen rocks and seventy-six more cities' worth of material, and not enough hands. |
WHAT YOU NEED
For contract building, freight or survey work: nothing. A character and some free hours. The city work rewards Management or Construction skill and field prospecting rewards freighter piloting, but both are trainable and we will train you toward them.
QUESTIONS PEOPLE ACTUALLY ASK
I have never played this game. Is that a problem?
No, and it is close to the opposite of a problem. The contract building work is repetitive by design — you follow a build order and place facilities — which makes it the best possible way to learn how the game actually works. You get paid while you learn it. Two of the four roles need no prior experience at all.
Do I have to join anything, or commit to anything?
For paid jobs, no. You claim a job off the board, do it, get paid, and you owe nobody anything. Take one job or fifty. The salaried seats are a commitment on both sides, but nobody is asked to make that choice before they have tried the work.
What happens if I go quiet for a few weeks?
Nothing. Real life comes first and everyone here has had it interrupt them. Jobs are claimed one at a time precisely so that going quiet costs nobody anything — an unclaimed job simply sits on the board until someone else picks it up.
Why do I have to join Czerka first?
Torize is a division of the Czerka Corporation, so its roster sits inside Czerka's. It is two applications instead of one, which is a extra step, and it buys you something real: you are in an established corporation with a deep production base behind the work.
What is facility income?
Buildings pay rent. Put a city on a piece of ground you own, and every building in it pays you a share of what it earns, on a fixed run once a week. It arrives whether or not anyone is buying anything from you. It is the steadiest kind of income in the game, and it is what Torize is built on.
Why asteroids rather than planets?
Nobody fights over them. They are cheap ground with mineral deposits sitting within reach of the build site, and a two-by-two rock takes four cities where a contested world takes one city and a garrison to hold it.
Will I have to fight anyone?
Not unless you want to. There is a fleet being built and there will be crew seats on it, but the mining, building and hauling work is all non-combat and always will be.
How do I actually get paid?
Credits, transferred directly to you. Job work pays on completion at the rate posted with the job. Salaried crew are paid weekly, out of facility income, on the same run the cities pay on.
IF YOU WANT TO TRY IT
Apply to the Czerka Corporation, then send a join request to Torize and message Xpofer Tomas. Say roughly what you fancy doing. If the answer is "no idea, but the panda seemed friendly", that is a perfectly good answer and you will not be the first.
